Thought I'd share a neat little trick Bob learned about.
Who gets you to the airport? Bum a ride from sucker friends? Rita? Taxi? Oh, for the days when we could park at the Rhein-Mein PAX terminal for FREE and take a taxi to Frankfurt International.
We did some math several years ago, and since we've been here about 10 years, it has probably been about 8 years ago that we figured this out. Shuttle x2 = about 80 Euro. Round trip = 160 Euro, and since we haven't used a shuttle that may not be an accurate estimate. The other options would involve someone driving you, the "bum a ride" option, and then you have to drag someone out of bed in the wee hours, make sure their car will accommodate all of you and yours and their luggage, and if you are really nice you buy a tank of gas for them (you are really nice, aren't you?).
Other options include that one gas station that will service your car while you are gone and you can park it there and taxi to and from the station. We even tried the Holiday Inn - spend the night before you fly and for a nominal fee you can park your car in their gated lot, shuttle to airport included.
We finally just parked our car in the parking garage at the airport. Average cost for our trips was 200 Euro, which was about what it cost to stay at the Holiday Inn and only just a bit higher than shuttles (which by the way pick you up a day or so before your scheduled departure). And was it ever worth it! Most of our flights were out of Terminal 2, we would always park in U315 (nearly always empty), just steps from the elevator up to check in, and when we got home maybe a 2 minute walk from baggage claim (OH! and the restrooms on U3 Terminal 2 are the best kept secret in Frankfurt - clean and empty!). We just decided the price was worth the convenience and always figure it into our travel budget.
Now for Bob's find.
If you go to the Frankfurt Airport vacation parking page, there is an option to pre-pay and save over 50%. For example, our trip to Israel coming up, for the 10 days we are gone will only cost 80 Euro! You pay in advance on-line, they send you a card that you insert at the Kasse instead of your credit card that indicates you have already paid. And already paid only half the price! AND, in the case of Terminal 2, we can park in our same spot as we usually do.
One more thing - the earlier you pay, the more you save!

We plan to use this service from now on when flying out of Frankfurt.

Baumholder Travels
We are starting this blog to help share travel information among all the members of our branch. This blog is a place to post the details and pictures from your travels in and around Europe. Please tell us where you went, how long you stayed, where you stayed, how you got there, how many people traveled with you, the approximate cost of the trip and your daily excursions. Feel free to include what you thought was successful and what you would change. Happy Travels!!
